Sport News: FA lands heavy fine on Chelsea and Tottenham
– Chelsea and Tottenham will pay heavily for the brawl that ensued during their clash
– The Blues will pay a fine of £375,000 for breaching the FA rule E20
English Premier League clubs Chelsea and Tottenham have been issued a heavy fine to the tune of £600,000 by the FA, after both clubs failed to control their players when they clashed on May 2.
The fiery encounter ended in a 2-2 draw, a game in which Spurs had nine players booked and Mousa Dembele banned for six games for gouging the eye of Diego Costa.
The score line of the fixture dashed Spurs’ hopes of clinching the EPL as Leicester confirmed the top spot after that result.
A statement from the FA reads:
“Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have been fined £375,000 and £225,000 respectively after both clubs admitted three breaches of FA Rule E20 for failing to control their players and/or officials.
“It follows incidents which occurred in the 45th and 87th minutes and also at the end of their fixture at Stamford Bridge on Monday 2 May 2016. Prior to this fixture, Chelsea had breached FA Rule E20 on four separate occasions and Tottenham Hotspur twice since November 2014.
